Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Here are a couple of TextExpander snippet groups you can use when you e-mail Torch Project Management. In TextExpander, click the “+” and select “Add Group from URL”:

At this screen you can type in either:

  1. http://mytorch.net/snippets/Fill-in.textexpander
  2. http://mytorch.net/snippets/Advanced.textexpander

This will result in the following snippet group:

If you decide to use the “Fill-in” address you will be presented with a form that looks similar to this whenever you expand a snippet:

If would prefer, however, to just have the snippet expand without the form, use the “Advanced” address.

Receipt Importing from E-Mail (Torch Project Management)

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Now that Torch Project Management can attach receipts to expenses, you might be wondering how this works when you send an email message with expense commands and attachments. Take this email for example:

When Torch imports this message and sees the expense command, it will look through the attachments to see if one of them is probably the receipt. Any attachment with a filename containing the words: “receipt”, “invoice”, “bill” or “purchase” will be considered the receipt (and therefore attached to the expense and not the message).

Additionally, any image attachment (JPEG, PNG, GIF) or PDF will be considered a possible receipt.

More Advanced E-Mail Commands (Torch Project Management)

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

There are a few new e-mail commands to make you more efficient in Torch Project Management:

[new project: Name of New Project]

If you are an internal user, you can create a new project and attach the incoming e-mail to it.

[new project: Name of New Project: 1000]

Optionally, you can also specify the budget of the project by using a second colon followed by a number.

[event:06/26/2010:Lunch at 12pm->Ben, John Doe]

You can now (optionally) specify a list of pinned users on an event by using the “->” extension. You don’t have to specify the users’ entire name just enough so that it is unique within the project.

As always, these commands are also available when sending data to the web hook.

Mobile Offline Access on Firefox Mobile (Torch Project Management)

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

The offline mobile interface for Torch Project Management now works on devices that run Firefox Mobile (most notably the Nokia N900). This is the very same software that you can run offline on your iPhone/iPod Touch, Android device, Palm Pre/Pixi or iPad.

To use the software offline, just go the mobile address (YourSubDomain.mytorch.net/m/). You will be presented with a warning:

Once you accept, click to bookmark the site.

Depending on the dimensions of your device, you will either get the tablet or the phone version of the software.

Automatic Google Docs Organization (Torch Project Management)

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Torch Project Management now keeps your uploaded and created files organized in Google Docs. Docs & spreadsheets are placed in a folder named after the particular project.

But Torch will maintain whatever organization you have already. If you create a folder named “budgets” (for instance) under an existing folder, Torch won’t create a new one, it will use the existing folder.

QuickViews are also kept together, and this folder is shared between Heap and Torch, so you can quickly delete it when you no longer need the QuickViews.

Mobile Offline Access on your iPad (Torch Project Management)

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

The offline mobile interface for Torch Project Management now has a specialized version for tablets (most notably the iPad). This is the very same software that you can run offline on your iPhone, Android device or Palm Pre; it just detects the larger display and uses the space more efficiently. The menu on the left is always kept on the screen, even as you scroll down the page.

But, because of the way this implemented, this interface is already available for future tablets. Any tablet running the iPhone OS, Android or WebOS (Palm) will just work.

The main Torch Project Management interface also works on the iPad, but if you are on a shaky to nonexistent connection, the offline mobile interface is the way to go.
